The first issue of Alaska Catholic focuses on “passing on the faith.” And we made the cover story!
Pope Benedict XVI has called the Catholic Church to celebrate a special “Year of Faith” beginning this Fall. As part of this celebration the three bishops of Alaska (Juneau, Fairbanks and Anchorage) launched a new magazine called “Alaska Catholic.” The bishops hope the publication will “deepen our understanding and enhance our practice of the Catholic faith” and encourage Catholic Alaskans to be “witnesses of Christ to the ‘people of our time.’”

A caravan of snow machines buzzed along Resurrection Pass trail, headlights blazing toward the first frigid moments of 2012. Experienced wilderness guide Mike Baker led the charge, with one son riding in front of him and another hugging his waist. Following behind him, the four eldest children drove their own machines, with two younger siblings as passengers. Their mom Shelby shepherded the convoy from the rear, with the baby bundled in a carrier inside her jacket.
